Text Box: Learn More About Us

The Independent Catholic Church of the West has two Canons– Love God and Love Neighbor.  All our ministries flow from these Canons.

Everyone is welcome to fully participate in all aspects of our denomination, both as Community members and in ordained ministry.

Although we are Catholic, we strive to build Communities that are open to everyone– regardless of  their denominational affiliation or faith tradition, to build communities that seek to understand and learn from those who walk with us and those who have gone before us.
Text Box: The Independent Catholic Movement

With roots in the Old Catholic Church, the Independent Catholic Movement has been present and growing in the United States for many decades, but is just now coming into its own.

As the name indicates, Independent Catholics are autonomous jurisdictions each with their own organizational structure and ministries.  As such, the expression of their worship and ministry is rich and diverse.

Text Box: ICCW News and Events

Our News and Events Page has the latest happenings in the ICCW. Topics including Ordinations, special events, new affiliations, and articles submitted by our Clergy, Laypeople, and friends of the ICCW.
Text Box: Church Leadership

The ICCW is communitarian. Consequently, leadership of the Church is comprised of lay and ordain members. Like the early Christian communities, members are called to leadership based on their gifts and talents. So, the Church is not “governed” by the ordained. The bishop, priests and deacons are ordained for ministry and service. Thus they are called by the Church for Servant Leadership rather than institutional governance.

The Bishop, priests and deacons have the overall pastoral responsibility for the Church. Temporal responsibility is directed by lay leadership that emerges from within the communities.

Training, review and calling for ordained ministry is shared by both the clergy and lay members.

On this page you will meet both the present and past Servant Leaders of the ICCW.

Text Box: Are You Called?

The answer to that question is YES.  Each one of us is called to share our gifts with each other– some are called to do that in a community setting within a parish or other ministry.  In the ICCW everyone is encouraged to respond to God’s call– whether that be in the ordained ministry as a deacon or priest or in other areas of ministry and outreach.

Requirements for ordination as a deacon or priest can be found on this page.  We will be happy to talk to you about this process or about your calling to other areas of ministry.

Being an inclusive organization, we wanted our Statement of Faith to reflect the thoughts, beliefs, and ministries of all the diverse groups that form our Parishes. A great deal of thought, effort, and energy went into the development of our Statement of Faith, and it’s something we are all very proud of.
