Minutes of ICCW Steering Committee meeting, 8/27/08

Meeting was called to order by Doraine at 6:00pm. Fr Tony opened the meeting with a prayer.

 

Agenda items:

 

Introduction of new members: Gino and Ruben were introduced. They will be replacing Earl and Doraine as Holy Family representatives starting with the next Steering Committee meeting.

 

Review of 7/12/08 minutes: Minutes had been emailed by Earl to committee members beforehand and were approved as submitted.

 

Treasurer’s report: Treasurer’s report had been emailed by Marie. ICCW account balance as of 7/7/08 was $2238.90. Expenses for the ICCW gathering were $386.32 for food and $341.00 for Bp Terry’s travel. $150.00 was sent to support Assisi House in Peru. There have been no deposits since 7/7/08. Current balance is $1361.58. Treasurer’s report was accepted by the full committee.

 

Bishop’s issues:

 

a)    Bp Terry acknowledged the good work and efforts of Earl and Doraine, who will both be stepping down from the Steering Committee. They will be replaced with Gino and Ruben starting at the next meeting.

 

b)    We have received a draft intercommunion agreement from Bp Tom Abel of the American Catholic Church-California Diocese. Bp Terry has sent the agreement to Fr Peter, Fr Tony, and Rev Sue for review. There are some issues that need to be resolved before we would enter a formal intercommunion agreement. Bp Terry mentioned that he and Bp Tom are working to put together a list of independent catholic churches around the country where our members would be welcomed should they find themselves away from their home parishes. Rev Sue mentioned that the Reconciliation Catholic Church is also looking to put together a similar list.

 

c)    Bp Terry said that he felt that the ICCW Summer Gathering went very well, but there were some problems that surfaced after it was concluded. Bp Terry wanted to reiterate that he does not operate in isolation and makes decisions based on counsel he receives from the Steering Committee and other members of ICCW. He thinks that the problems that arose were not so much about what was decided, but was more an issue of how we operate. He also stated that as a Steering Committee we need to present a united voice to the people we serve. To that end he suggested:

 

       Someone from the Steering Committee drafts a bio for Fr Peter and explains his mission in the ICCW.

 

       That we make sure that everyone in the ICCW is made of what is involved in our decision-making process.

 

       That we slow down our process for major decisions.

 

       That Steering Committee be more informative with parish members concerning what we do.

 

       That the Steering Committee issues a formal affirmation of Fr Peter’s consecration as bishop to be published on our Web site.

 

Debbie volunteered to write Fr Peter’s bio. Bp Terry wants to make sure that the bio is extensive and emphasizes Peter’s background in South America and his work in Peru.

 

Open discussion: This item was tabled due to time constraints.

 

Election of new chair and secretary: Since there is also going to be some turnover of committee members at Good Shepherd, this item will be tabled until the next meeting. Marie will act as interim chair until the next meeting. Aaron suggested that the next meeting be in September. The date and time will be decided via email. Rev Sue will assist Marie with setting up an agenda for the meeting.

 

Rev Sue led the closing prayer. Doraine adjourned the meeting at 7:05pm.
